ABOUT

Together in Kyoto
With the sensitivity characteristic of the people and communities of Kyoto ...
We will develop and grow into the future through the Kyoto International Film and Art Festival.
At the Festival, we will create together the future of films, arts, traditional crafts and new media
Last year, the Kyoto International Film and Art Festival was relaunched as a film festival inheriting the tradition and aspirations of the Kyoto Film Festival under the theme of“Movies, Art, and Everything Else.” The Festival encompasses not only film, video and arts, but every kind of genre. It is based on respect for the spirit that exists at the center of historical dramas and people’s lives as well as Kyoto’s background, where films have been developed on the basis of its historical perspective and traditional arts and crafts. The Kyoto International Film and Art Festival aims to enjoy these films with the people of Kyoto and people who love Kyoto, creating new culture and introducing it to Asia and the rest of the world. It is a a film festival that looks to the future. The movie category grants the Shozo Makino Award, inherited from the Kyoto Film Festival, and the Toshiro Mifune Award that was created last year. The art category meanwhile is planning even more artistic events than last year in many places in the city of Kyoto.

The 2nd Kyoto International Film and Art Festival aspires to be a film festival contributing to our future with the catch phrase“Kyoto Loves Changes and Rebellions.”We aim to share a wonderful time with the people of Kyoto and people who love Kyoto, participating in the creation of new culture and introducing it to Asia and the rest of the world.
It has also been decided to hold the Creators Factory competition again this year, with the aim of discovering and developing new talent. Aiming to promote the event internationally as a place where all kinds of creators can showcase their expressions, we invite works from across a broad array of genres, including film, video and the arts. And once again, we will offer the very popular kids’category.
