Chairman of the Kyoto International Film and Art Festival Executive Committee
SADAO NAKAJIMA

The Kyoto Film Festival was held eight times starting 1997 with the support of Kyoto City. Last year, it became the Kyoto International Film and Art Festival, inheriting the traditions and aspirations of its forerunner. The Kyoto International Film and Art Festival Executive Committee is determined to establish a film culture that can also facilitate cultural sightseeing, working together with the people of Kyoto and people who love Kyoto. The Festival features many events, such as the Shozo Makino Award, inherited from the Kyoto Film Festival, a broad range of feature films and art exhibits, and a Creators Factory that aims to discover and develop new talent. We also intend to reveal the historical background, in which craftsmen and traditional craft works in Kyoto have supported films in Kyoto with multifarious contacts between the arts and film culture in the city.
For the Kyoto International Film and Art Festival 2015, which is to be held for the second time following last year’s inaugural event, we enjoy the support of Kyoto prefecture, Kyoto Prefectural Board of Education, Kyoto City Board of Education, Kyoto Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kyoto Junior Chamber as well as Kyoto city and also from media in Kyoto, Osaka and nationwide.
The Kyoto International Film and Art Festival’s first motto is “To advance with people in Kyoto.”All members of the Kyoto International Film and Art Festival Executive Committee are dedicated to achieving this aspiration. Your kind understanding and cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

Kyoto is the birthplace of films in Japan, with the first Japanese movie released in this city. I’d like to extend my hearty congratulations on the opening of the Kyoto International Film and Art Festival again this year in the city of Kyoto and my deep respect to the earnest commitment of all those behind it, including Mr. Sadao Nakajima, Chairman of the Kyoto International Film and Art Festival Executive Committee.
The inaugural Kyoto International Film And Art Festival, held last year with numerous events under the comprehensive theme,“Movies, Art, and Everything Else”proved a great success, attracting many visitors.
The Festival has evolved further since then. I expect that it has grown into an event that can be enjoyed by a wide range of people, with appealing plans taking full advantage of Kyoto, where tradition and innovation meet.
Kyoto City fully supports the Film Festival, which passionately creates and showcases the film and cultural innovation of Kyoto. We hope that you will join us in this support. Let’s take this highly promising Festival into the future together, delivering energy to Kyoto, Japan and the world!
