Japanese Rock ’n’ Roll legend Yuya Uchida made an appearance the Kyoto International Film and Art Festival.

Uchida, who thrilled audiences last year at the fest, has come back again. The festival is presenting a special tribute to him titled “Yuya Uchida 2 Days Vol.2.” It includes 2 movies that star the longtime rock n roller and actor, “Les Liaisons Erotiques” and “Dioxin From Fish!!” They screened on 16th and 17th October at Aeon Cinema Kyoto Katsuragawa.
The comedic duo Yanagibson emceed the appearance. Uchida made his way to the stage and commented Les Liaisons Erotiques, “I’ve come KIFF every year. I think that the movie is a very filmic piece. I haven’t seen it on the big screen for a very long time.” The flick was shot in Paris in the early 90s. And it was much talked about because it featured such massive stars as Rie Miyazawa and Takeshi Kitano. Uchida plays the lead, as well as acting as producer and co-author of the script.
Uchida added, “It’s not a film anybody could make. Please enjoy it.”
Uchida then explained how he traveled around Europe a lot in ‘60s and at the end of one of his trips he spent a year in Paris. Not knowing French well he ended up eating dog food by mistake, and he jokes this film is revenge for that indignity. He related the creative process of making the film as well as stories about auditioning the character of Helene from local actors. He also noted his impression of Rie Miyazawa, who was the ‘it’ girl of Japanese fashion and photography at that time. He added anecdotes about the legendary comedian Takeshi Kitano.
Uchida also talked about the difficulties of portraying his role even though he was attracted to the innocent character. He finished by saying, “Please enjoy the film comfortably, I will also watch it with you from the back of the theater.”
